CC #1: Advanced Crisis Committee (ACC)
While other Crisis Committees surround historical or fictional events, ACC builds off of the current geopolitical situation in the world, complicating relationships and incentivizing working together with a realistic, catastrophic event. The ACC will be responsible for maintaining global order in a time of emergency, with delegates proposing solutions in directive format, and dais staff updating the committee on their progress.
Advanced Crisis Committees facilitate crisis-style debate, while incorporating realistic world events that could occur in the present state of the world. As with a crisis committee, delegates in ACC must derive realistic solutions to spontaneous events in a timeline. Debate in a Crisis Committee is regulated by a continuous moderated caucus, intervened with directive actions and crisis updates. Delegates will be assigned an important figure to represent on the world stage, with adequate military, economic, and civilian power to make change within sessions.
ACC is recommended for those who enjoy crisis style Model UN debate, but who also want to learn more about the global division of power, and how nations could work together in case of a tangible emergency. ACC, despite its name, can sometimes be considered a first step for intermediate to advanced delegates who want to experience what MUN crisis has to offer.
Topic: Biological Warfare
Biological Warfare has concerned the world for centuries, stemming from the plague-ridden corpses being catapulted across a Crimean city’s walls, to the systemic eradication of the entire Jewish ethnic and cultural group during the events of the Holocaust, and more recently, the chemical attacks on Kurdish villages, namely during the Halabja Massacre, perpetrated by Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi Military. At present, the hesitation to regulate large corporations, especially in the west, has often left companies with free reign to develop advanced chemical formulas, which, if taken by the wrong hands, can lead to the assembly of biochemical weapons. Furthermore, the events of the COVID-19 pandemic have proven the lethality of seemingly harmless, flu-like viruses, and their ability to traverse the globe within weeks due to growing civilian and economic interconnectedness. It is clear that as regulations are abandoned, and militant organizations with disregard for human rights become more prevalent, new biochemical weapons could easily be used, and their effects would spread across the globe.
The specific event that commences ACC’s crisis will not be prepared for delegates before the first committee session. Delegates are only to know about the potential for events and the background surrounding the initiating crisis. It is expected that delegates research the positions of their characters, and their stances on catastrophic global biochemical attacks.
CC #2: Fictional Crisis Committee (FCC)
While other Crisis Committees surround historical or modern day plausible events, FCC committees traditionally surround a fictional universe, focusing on hypothetical rather than geopolitical debate. An initiating crisis event in an FCC committee will take place in a well known Sci-Fi realm, with delegates representing fictional characters within the timeline. The FCC will be responsible for the immediate emergency actions to be taken as a result of the crisis event. Delegates will propose directive solutions that are realistic in the context of the fictional world.
Fictional Crisis Committees facilitate crisis-style debate, while incorporating fictional events based on a fictional world into the crisis updates. As with a crisis committee, delegates in FCC must derive realistic solutions to spontaneous events in a timeline. Debate in a Crisis Committee is regulated by a continuous moderated caucus, intervened with directive actions and crisis updates. Delegates will be assigned an important figure to represent on the world stage, with adequate military, economic, and civilian power to make change within sessions.
FCC is recommended for those who enjoy crisis style Model UN debate, but who wish for a different scenario rather than the same historical event they continue to debate about. Delegates prioritizing fun and debate skill practice, still in the style of MUN crisis, are encouraged to register for FCC. FCC is meant for advanced delegates who know all things MUN related, and are looking to debate other high schoolers their level.
Topic: Undetermined
FCC’s topic is not yet determined. It will be determined based on public interest from outreach initiatives. VIHSMUN is dedicated to the delegates who will debate with us, and therefore, we appreciate the input of our conference’s attendees.
CC #3: Historical Crisis Committee (HCC)
Often considered the perfect introduction of Model UN crisis committees, Historical Crisis Committees traditionally surround a historical event, where delegates debate considering the historical circumstances. An initiating crisis event in an HCC committee will be a real-world historical event, and delegates will represent real characters who played a significant role in the solving of the real-life crisis. The HCC will be responsible for the immediate emergency actions to be taken as a result of the crisis event. Delegates will propose directive solutions that are realistic in the context of the historical world.
Historical Crisis Committees facilitate crisis-style debate, while incorporating historical events and power-hierarchy, based on a real-life crisis scenario. As with a crisis committee, delegates in HCC must derive realistic solutions to spontaneous events in the timeline. Debate in a Crisis Committee is regulated by a continuous moderated caucus, intervened with directive actions and crisis updates. Delegates will be assigned an important figure to represent on the world stage, with adequate military, economic, and civilian power to make change within sessions.
HCC is recommended for advanced delegates who enjoy crisis style Model UN debate, and who are looking for newer styles of MUN. For those wanting to try a crisis committee for the first time, HCC is the perfect fit. However, all those with interest in the historical topic are encouraged to register for HCC. HCC is meant for eager delegates who want to know all things MUN related, and those looking to debate other high schoolers their level.
Topic: WW2 Allies, May 1940
Undoubtedly the most significant historical event in the 20th century, World War II brought attention to every corner of the globe, from the Western Front’s German Blitzkrieg maneuvers, to the island-hopping campaign in Asia. The darkest hour of the war for the allied powers was indeed the few months after May 1940, as the outcome of the battle of France began to turn the tide towards the axis.
With crisis onset being May 1940, delegates must work together as allied powers to defend the French from complete collapse, while also keeping in mind the concurrent invasion of China by the Japanese. With fronts all around the world, allied delegates have a common enemy, but their strategies to reach their common goals vary significantly. Debating in a crisis format will allow delegates to design battle plans to defeat the axis for good, securing democracy forever.
All delegates in HCC: WW2 Allies, May 1940 will play the roles of various allied nations across the globe. Every nation has the common objective of defeating totalitarian regimes and guaranteeing rights for civilians. The dais will not permit any delegate to ‘switch sides’ and join the axis. Delegates may betray allies, but not for axis motives. All decisions regarding this will be made by the dais responsibly.
The initial committee session will commence the first month of debated conflict, May 1940. Time progression occurs, and directives will be implemented in accordance. Crisis progression and content is up to the discretion of the dais team at all times.
CC #4: Cabinet Crisis Committee (CCC)
Crisis Committees generally bring historical or fictional characters with different roles together, but CCC uses that idea and transforms it into a War Cabinet debate. The nature of the committee complicates relationships and incentivizes working together with a historical conflict. The CCC will be responsible for maintaining a solid image of the common entity in a time of emergency, with delegates proposing solutions in directive format, and dais staff updating the committee on their progress.
Cabinet Crisis Committees facilitate crisis-style debate, while incorporating real-world events that occurred in a historical world state with events that may not have happened but certainly could have. As with a crisis committee, delegates in CCC must derive realistic solutions to spontaneous events in a timeline. Debate in a Crisis Committee is regulated by a continuous moderated caucus, intervened with directive actions and crisis updates. Delegates will be assigned an important figure to represent within the cabinet, with adequate military, economic, and civilian power to make change within sessions.
CCC is recommended for those who enjoy crisis style Model UN debate, but who also want to learn more about the small boards where decisions are made in emergency situations, and how nations determined their actions in historical events. CCC should be a choice made by advanced delegates who want to experience all that MUN crisis has to offer.
Topic: Undetermined
CCC’s topic is not yet determined. It will be determined based on public interest from outreach initiatives. VIHSMUN is dedicated to the delegates who will debate with us, and therefore, we appreciate the input of our conference’s attendees.
CC #5: Joint Crisis Committee (JCC)
JCC is considered the most exciting and advanced of all Model UN crisis committees, inviting the most highly esteemed delegates from around the city, province, country and world. Whereas most Crisis Committees invite debate to reach a common ground, JCC has two defined sides, bloc A and B. Each bloc is working against each other, passing directives to outmaneuver the other team. Usually, JCC is based upon a historical event with two defined sides. A team of 4 crisis staff, with one acting as ‘overlord,’ will be responsible for the story direction of the committee, reviewing through directives passed by both blocs. An initiating crisis event in an JCC committee will be a real-world historical event, and delegates will represent real characters who played a significant role in the solving of the real-life crisis. The JCC will be responsible for the immediate emergency actions to be taken as a result of the crisis event. Delegates will propose directive solutions that are realistic in the context of the historical world.
Joint Crisis Committees facilitate crisis-style debate, while incorporating historical events and power-hierarchy, based on a real-life crisis scenario. As with a crisis committee, delegates in JCC must derive realistic solutions to spontaneous events in the timeline. Debate in a Crisis Committee is regulated by a continuous moderated caucus, intervened with directive actions and crisis updates. Delegates will be assigned an important figure to represent on the world stage, with adequate military, economic, and civilian power to make change within sessions.
JCC is recommended for advanced delegates who enjoy crisis style Model UN debate, and who are looking for a challenge. For those wanting to try a crisis committee for the first time, HCC is not recommended. However, all those with interest in the historical topic are encouraged to register for JCC. JCC is meant for eager delegates who want to know all things MUN related, and those looking to debate other high schoolers their level in a competitive environment.
Topic: Undetermined
JCC’s topic is not yet determined. It will be determined based on public interest from outreach initiatives. VIHSMUN is dedicated to the delegates who will debate with us, and therefore, we appreciate the input of our conference’s attendees.
