What is VIHSMUN?
What is VIHSMUN?
Victoria International High Schools Model United Nations (VIHSMUN) is a three day conference held at the Fairmont Empress, Victoria Conference Centre, and Marriott Inner Harbour in downtown Victoria. The conference was created and is organized by high school students in the Greater Victoria area who wish to bring the art of diplomacy to their home town.

VIHSMUN is hosted by a group of high schoolers, in the VIHSMUN Society, an incorporated non-profit organization, based in Greater Victoria, British Columbia. We are a small but passionate group who aim to build and grow the art of diplomacy in the beautiful capital of Canada’s most western province.

What is our goal?
What is our goal?
Our official objective is, "To integrate multiculturalism and geopolitical issues into the minds of Canada's youth, while giving these high schoolers the ability to share and debate their ideas." We believe that the ultimate goal is to unite the youth across our city, country, and even around the world, under common goals of multiculturalism, equality, and freedom. We believe that people are more alike then we think, and that educating the generations to come is essential.

Always an ambitious delegate and staff member, Eli enters his Grade 12 year with confidence in his Model UN journey. Starting with an online conference in the height of the COVID pandemic, the small but mighty 7th Grader has evolved into one of the Co-Founders of Vancouver Island’s only overnight Model UN conference. VIHSMUN has become one of his most ambitious projects, but with each day that passes he becomes more confident in his team and their motivation for success. Between time spent searching for fundraising venues, emailing sponsors, and handling committee programs, Eli is proud that his free time has virtually elapsed. With 16+ conferences worth of UN style debate experience, Eli has learned so much about the world’s geopolitical climate, and he wishes to share his lessons with delegates from all across Canada and internationally.

As a junior at Mount Douglas Secondary School, Kyumin Kim is thrilled to serve as the Director-General of the VIHSMUN 2027. Although his Model UN journey has been short, it has been incredibly rich. Now, in his third year, Kyumin has grown from a passionate delegate into an experienced staff member. When he is not dropped into a room full of smarties dressed in Western business suits, Kyumin enjoys reading, sleeping, and, most of all, letting his mind wander to the most random thoughts. He looks forward to meeting all the bright and engaging delegates from across Canada at VIHSMUN 2027, and is ready to share a climactic moment in his Model UN journey with them.

From an extrovert who couldn’t find his voice, to a person who says he “loves” public speaking, Oliver has grown immensely as a delegate since joining the small MUN Club at Pacific Christian School. Oliver has attended a number of regional and international conferences moving into twelfth grade. He is overjoyed to be joining the Secretariat Team as USG Conference for VIHSMUN 2027. He is always excited to have a good debate on any topic and cannot wait to see what delegates bring to this conference. Oliver wishes delegates the very best when preparing for VIHSMUN and hopes delegates foster new and amazing experiences.

As a Grade 12 student, Model United Nations has been a passion for Imanzi ever since he started in the eighth grade. Though he has never mastered the art of debate he has grown to love it, from debating the reduction of poverty in french as Kenya to fighting off protestants and concentrating wealth in South America as Gaspar de Guzman, he has thoroughly loved his time in Model UN. On his fourth and last iteration of SMUSMUN before he graduates, he is eager to help direct delegates during his first time as part of the secretariat team he plans on helping organize VIHSMUN and ensure that all delegates create worthwhile memories. Imanzi loves to play Basketball and Rugby, watching movies and shows, and playing games.

As a Grade 12 student at St. Michaels University School, Kieran is thrilled to serve as Under Secretary-General for this year's iteration of VIHSMUN. His first Model UN experience was in Grade 6, held online during the COVID pandemic. Intimidated by the lower voices coming from their mics, he spoke just three times. Since his hesitant start in his MUN journey, he has been hooked on the competition, attending as many committees as possible, transforming his initial fear into a passion. Outside of the committee room, Kieran can be found playing sports and video games. He is truly excited for what will hopefully be a weekend of extremely passionate debate.
